About Tudor G Jovin
Professional Statement
Dr. Jovin is a Professor of Neurology and Neurosurgery at the Cooper Medical School of Rowan University, Chief and Chair of the Neurology Department at Cooper University Health Care, and Medical Director of Cooper and Inspira Neuroscience. His clinical and research activities are focused on the care of patients with cerebrovascular disorders. He is an expert in interventional and non-interventional treatments of the entire spectrum of cerebrovascular disorders, including ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke.
Dr. Jovin served as principal investigator for several major stroke treatment trials: DAWN, a multicenter, international, randomized trial of endovascular therapy versus medical therapy in the six- to 24-hour time window; principal investigator for REVASCAT, a randomized trial in Spain of endovascular therapy versus medical therapy for stroke due to large artery occlusion within eight hours; principal investigator of BAOCHE, a randomized trial in China of endovascular therapy versus standard medical care for acute stroke due to basilar occlusion in the six- to 24-hour time window; and principal investigator for LASTE, a randomized trial in France and Spain of endovascular therapy versus standard medical care for patients with acute stroke due to large vessel occlusion in the anterior circulation and a large baseline infarct. These trials were published in the New England Journal of Medicine and led to changes in the guidelines for management of acute stroke.
Additionally, he has played a major role in multiple other clinical trials investigating endovascular treatments. Results from these trials have translated into practice, expanding the cohort of patients considered for mechanical thrombectomy and significantly reducing functional impairment and death related to large vessel occlusion stroke.
Dr. Jovin has served, and continues to serve, as investigator/co-investigator for several local or multi-center clinical trials and as a member of the executive/steering committees for several multicenter national and international trials. This includes his current role as co-principal investigator on multicenter trials funded through NIH ( STEP - StrokeNet Thrombectomy Endovascular Platform) and PCORI grants.
Dr. Jovin has served as president of the Society of Vascular and Interventional Neurology, chair of the American Heart Association International Stroke Conference, and president of the Philadelphia Neurological Society. He has also served on several other committees and boards of national and international organizations, including American Academy of Neurology, American Society of Neuroimaging, Interventional Neurology, Society of Neurointerventional Surgery. In addition, he has served on editorial boards of medical journals within his area of expertise, including, Stroke, Journal of Neuroimaging, Stroke: Vascular and Interventional Neurology. He has published more than 450 articles in peer-reviewed journals or book chapters and was found in an independent peer reviewed publication to be the most cited author in the neurointerventional field by altimetric criteria.
